FILE FOLDER NOTEPAD / STATIONERY CARD HOLDER...
We had a great class this weekend - thanks to the ladies who came!  This is an awesome project that will come in handy with the holidays fast approaching as they make fabulous, durable and inexpensive gifts for teachers, friends, etc. and are fun and easy to do.

These notepad holders were shown in Stampin' Success (demonstrator magazine) last August.  They are made using our new Thoroughly Modern File Folders.  I altered the instructions given somewhat to come up my own version for a class this weekend.  They double as a card holder for a stationery gift set, so we made 2 two of the holders - one as a Notepad Holder and one as a Stationery Set.  My local office store was out of the white jr. legal pads this week, so I had to use yellow, but I recommend getting the white ones if you can.

I suggest practicing with a plain manila file folder first before using the Stampin' Up! File Folders.  Also, take your time scoring as with the slicker surface, it is easy for the scorer to "slip".

HOLDER & CARD SUPPLIES:
  • Thoroughly Modern File Folders, #115692  $10.95/12
  • Stamps – Lovely Letters #115030  $43.95
  • Card stock – Sahara Sand, Soft Suede, Rose Red, Bermuda Bay, Thoroughly Modern Designer Series Paper
  • Ink – Bermuda Bay
  • Ribbon – 5/8" Rose Red Grosgrain Ribbon or 1/2" Bermuda Bay Polka-Dot Grosgrain Ribbon
  • Punches – 1 3/8" Circle, 1 1/2" Circle
  • Accessories – Big Shot Lattice Die, Medium Whisper White Envelopes, RSVP Pen, Junior or Small Legal Pad, Velcro Dots
  • Adhesives – Sticky Strip, SNAIL, glue pen
DIRECTIONS FOR HOLDER:
  1. Open folder, so you’re looking at the inside. Label tab will be on your right-hand side.
  2. Cut 2¼” off left side – measuring from the outermost edge of the tab.
  3. Cut off excess ¼” along the bottom edge of the right side. (Part of the file folder on one is ¼” longer than on the other)
  4. Cut tab (only) off right side.
  5. Open folder with the 2¼” cut side to your left, score at 6", 12½” and 13” from the left edge of folder. The original existing center score/fold should be 6½” from the left edge of the folder, so you will now have 4 vertical score lines total.
  6. Turn folder, and score horizontally 3⅛” up from bottom edge.
  7. Cut away portion in bottom right corner (with scissors) where the horizontal score mark and the 12½” vertical score lines meet. This leaves the right side as the flap of the notebook.
  8. Fold bottom edge up along horizontal score first, using a bone folder to give it a good crease.
  9. Fold all vertical score marks, again using a bone folder to crease well.
  10. Use the corner rounder on any unfolded, unrounded corners.
  11. Open bottom flap, put sticky strip at far left and far right sides up to the score line, fold up flap and secure with Sticky Strip to form pockets.
  12. Wrap the top of your notepad (Jr. Legal Pad) with a 5” x 2” piece of DSP. Insert notepad into right pocket.
  13. Adhere Velcro dot to flap and secure folder shut.
Variation: Use ribbon adhered to the outside of the folder to close the folder as pictured above for the Stationery Set Holder.

DIRECTIONS FOR ALTERED PEN:
  1. Trim Designer Series Paper to 3 1/2" x 7/8".
  2. Unscrew RSVP Pen and remove insides from the clear exterior.
  3. Roll cardstock around thin dowel rod to “condition” and then wrap around the ink tube, using a bit of adhesive to hold it tight.
  4. Place ink tube back into bottom of pen and screw back into place.
